Collapsing sabers
3D Printing World's one-piece saber is the easy start; the designer recommends a 0.4 mm nozzle and a test print first. Their removable-blade version lets you print the collapsing blade in another color and insert it through a screw-on cap, and there's a Sith version that needs 205 mm of print height. Zaphod Beeblebrox's smaller saber goes from 180 mm to 900 mm with a twist-lock retainer; its blades print in vase mode with a 0.9 mm line width.
Hilts from the films and shows
- GizmoThrill (Bill and Britt of Punished Props) include A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Rise of Skywalker versions of the Skywalker saber, with a video on painting, finishing and electronics.
- UnimatrixRed has a run of kits: Luke's Return of the Jedi saber with a slide-open control box, Vader's in its Empire Strikes Back style, Obi-Wan's prequel saber measured with calipers on a metal replica, Ahsoka's white-bladed pair from The Mandalorian, Count Dooku's curved hilt, Darth Maul's double-bladed saber (print the parts twice) and an Anakin saber that opens to reveal its crystal chamber, held shut with 8 x 3 mm magnets.
- Daniel Josvai's Kenobi saber matches the 1977 A New Hope prop.
Build your own
3D E's parts collection has over fifty modular pieces from Obi-Wan's, Qui-Gon's and Luke's sabers plus custom ones: pick a pommel, an emitter and anything between, and screw them together. Orion3D Studios' custom saber threads together with no glue; only the optional double-blade adapter needs supports.
Light and sound
Adafruit's Lightsaber RP2040 is the complete electronics build, with a learn guide: an RP2040 PropMaker Feather, an LED button, a mini NeoPixel strip, a mini oval speaker and a 2200 mAh battery.
Finishing and display
Metal-look hilts are where finishing pays off: prime with filler and sandable primer, sand with sanding sponges, paint black, then buff Rub n Buff Silver Leaf over the raised parts. Small 6 x 3 mm magnets work for removable pommels. For display, Sabre Design's stand is inspired by the Fallen Order workbench. The finishing guide has the steps, and the Star Wars print library has every saber plus helmets.
