Cosplay measurement sheet

For cosplay armor you need your chest, waist, hips and shoulder width, the circumference of each limb and the lengths between your joints; for a helmet, your head's width, length and circumference. Fill in the sheet below: each line says how to measure it, it converts between cm and inches, and it stays saved in this browser so you can print it or copy it into a message.

How to measure for armor and helmets

  • Measure over what goes under the armor. An undersuit or bodysuit adds bulk, so wear it.
  • Get help. Measuring your own back, shoulders and inseam is where most mistakes come from.
  • Snug, not tight. The tape should lie flat without pressing in, and stay level all the way round.
  • Measure twice, and write down left and right separately if they differ.
  • Leave room. Armor made to your exact measurements is too tight to move in; plan for padding and straps.

Printing a helmet? The helmet size calculator turns your head width and length into the scale to print at. Making armor from foam? The EVA foam guide shows how to make a pattern from these numbers and a plastic-wrap mock-up, and the padding guide covers the fit inside a helmet.

Measurement questions

What measurements do you need for cosplay?

For armor: chest, waist, hips and shoulder width, the circumference of each limb (upper arm, forearm, wrist, thigh, knee, calf) and the lengths between joints. For a helmet: head width, length and circumference. Height and inseam cover most of the rest. The sheet on this page lists each one with how to measure it.

How do you measure your head for a cosplay helmet?

Hold two flat books against the sides of your head above the ears and measure the gap between them for the width, then do the same front to back for the length. Add the circumference around the forehead. The helmet size calculator turns the width and length into the scale to print a helmet at.

How do you measure for cosplay armor?

Wear what goes under the armor, such as an undersuit or bodysuit, stand relaxed, and have someone else hold the tape. Keep the tape level and snug but not tight, measure each point twice, and note left and right if they differ. For a custom fit, a plastic-wrap and tape pattern of the body part beats any measurement.

How do you size cosplay armor?

Scale the pattern or the print file to your measurements, then test the fit before the real thing: a poster-board mock-up for foam, or a thin test print for 3D printed parts. Leave room for padding, straps and movement: armor made to your exact measurements is too tight to move in.
