Wipe day is the closest thing Rust has to a holiday. On the first Thursday of every month, every official server force wipes: the map regenerates, monuments reset, and everyone starts over from a naked spawn on the beach. For 24 hours, every Rust player is on the same starting line.
If the mat is the part you care about, the full set is on our Rust desk mats page, which lists only what Epic Desk currently has in stock and applies the 10% PropBuilds code for you.
This guide is for the players who take that seriously. The battlestation, the checklist, the rituals. Force wipe lands on the first Thursday of every month at 2 PM US Eastern, so the exact date moves. This guide works for any of them. You can watch it tick down on our live wipe countdown, and the full wipe schedule has every upcoming date.
The day-before checklist
Looking for loot for the desk itself? Our guide to Rust props for sale lists the replicas, desk mats and budget props in stock right now.
- Game updated? Rust's monthly update usually drops right at wipe. Pre-download what you can Wednesday night so you're not stuck behind a patch queue Thursday afternoon.
- Discord checked? Your team's wipe plan is in the Discord. Confirm meeting time, server, who's grabbing comp and sulfur.
- Server picked? Pre-wipe Wednesday is when servers fill their slots. Knowing your target server and its queue saves stress on Thursday.
- Sleep schedule? Force wipe hits around 2 PM Eastern (about 19:00 UTC). Waking up early with time to prep beats a noon scramble.
The battlestation
Your physical setup matters. Six hours of wipe-day Rust means your desk needs to be in fighting shape.
Desk surface
An extended desk mat is the single biggest battlestation upgrade for a 6+ hour session. You get a full mouse-tracking surface, padding under the keyboard, and a desk that stops looking like a parts bin. I reviewed the full lineup in our Epic Desk Rust mat roundup. If you just want the one-line answer: the Rust Satellite Dish Desk Mat ($49.95). It's the most recognizable print in the lineup and the muted palette works with any keyboard.
Mouse, keyboard, headset
Wipe day isn't the day to test new gear. Use what you've practiced with. A mouse that feels good on Day 7 of a wipe is a mouse that wins fights on Day 0.
Caffeine and water
Coffee at the start, water through the session. A caffeine spike at hour 6 means you're shaky on the trigger.
Display prop (the X-factor)
Having a real-world Rust item on your desk feels different. The PropBuilds Minicopter Display Kit is the small ritual: the Minicopter on the desk reminds you what you're fighting for. Same goes for the Hackable Crate and Shotgun Trap kits. The full directory lives on the Rust props page.
The pre-wipe ritual (90 minutes before)
- 90 minutes before: Last meal. You won't eat for 6+ hours after this.
- 60 minutes before: Final settings check. Sensitivity, FOV, audio levels. Don't tweak during the wipe.
- 45 minutes before: Discord open, team voice channel joined. Discuss starting positions.
- 30 minutes before: Server queue lock-in. Popular servers fill before the wipe goes live. If you're not in queue early, you're not in.
- 15 minutes before: Hydrate. Bathroom. Shake out your shoulders.
- 5 minutes before: Music off, voice chat focused, fingers on WASD.
- Live: Naked spawn. Bushy bush. Stone.
Hour 1: stone, wood, low-grade
- Get a hatchet within the first few minutes (the rock works until then)
- Tree-camp for wood while you get your bearings
- Hit a stone deposit on the way to a monument
- Run a low-tier monument (a supermarket, gas station, or the Junkyard) for components and low-grade
Hour 2: tool cupboard and base
- Tool Cupboard placed. Now it's your spot.
- 2x1 frame up before anyone else sees you
- Storage box for the team's accumulated loot
Wipe day loot list (real-world)
On your desk when the wipe drops:
- Water bottle (refill once during the session)
- Caffeine of choice
- Snack you can eat with one hand
- Phone on Do Not Disturb
- Discord open on a second monitor or pinned tab
- Latest patch notes within arm's reach
The 24-hour playbook
Hour 12: full base. Tool cupboard upgraded. Transitioning from low-grade to oil and diesel.
Hour 18: AK ready, raid scouting started, sleeping bags placed at monuments.
Hour 24: comp and sulfur raid economy in motion. Now the real wipe begins.
After the wipe
Once the chaos settles (Day 2 or 3), reset your setup:
- Clean desk surface. The mat needs a wipe of its own.
- Dust the prop displays.
- Refresh headset earpads.
- Sleep.
The bigger picture
The players clearing monuments by hour 4 and owning their neighborhood by hour 12 are usually the ones who run the same routine every month. The mat, the kit on the shelf, the Discord queue, the snack within reach: none of that wins a wipe by itself. It just means that when the server goes live, the only thing you have to think about is Rust.
